5ohm Radiowave

[one_half]

5ohm Records is small and independent record label specializing in jazz, pop, R&B, hip-hop, and experimental music of all forms. To increase the visibility of their product base, they are creating a radio network coupled with a chat in an attempt to interest users into using their radio program while interacting with each other.

5ohm plans to intersperse the music from the label and label partners within the user’s playlist which links back to a purchasing portal to increase traction on their independent music.

The challenge was working in an almost non-existent brand to create something that looked modern without sacrificing usability. The product is currently for iPhone / iPad only, which made some design characteristics easier. It’s also only available in portrait mode to keep programming and design costs lower for the time being. Both of these aspects are likely to change when the product starts to acquire more traction. Users may use their Facebook or a specific login to create a channel right on their device. They can find other channels in which to chat by using either the search or the pre-determined popular channels.

The radio portion plays at the top of the product while the radio part of the app is active. Users can find out more about the artist and channel by clicking directly on the player.
