Quit freakin,’ it’s just #Deakin. Okay, #artdork aside, this is Edwin Deakin, who started out as a #British#painter, but decided he wanted to be a #Californianmore. After losing nearly every possession he had in the great Chicago fire in 1871, he moved there permanently until his death at 84. I don’t typically like pictures of paintings because, well, they’re boring…but Deakin is an exception. His depictions of all things#California made him instafamous-ish in #NorCal, but not very famous anywhere else. Too bad–If he only had a tumblr. Check out what he does in this piece called “Roses.” Great use of light for a painter that was never formally trained.
